Kurumizawa Shin, profile

Born in 1966, Shin KURIMIZAWA graduated from the faculty of medicine and specialized in psychiatry. After several years of practice, he started as a playwright, and has released since 2013 over 14 works, earning many distinctions and prizes. His plays focus on social issues – starting with the world of psychiatic institutions (Hospital Tsubaki) or medical education (The making of chicks). He also deals with the issue of nuclear plants (Same village, same year), and adresses the past militarization of society (The flag and the apron). He displays a great sense of humour, and many of his playwrights are downright entertaining, while making us think, but can also be just dramatic and moving. His works are usually first released by the company Myrtle Arts, and play in small sized theatres, from Shimokitawaza (Theatre 711) to Asakusa (Kyugeki theatre) – usually sold out, as per my experience.

Plays presented in 2025 : The flag and the apron, Next to this girl (あの少女の隣に), playing in Koenji on 4/19, 5/24, 6/28, 7/19, Let us announce it to MacBeth (マクベスにつよ)、Nakano, Momo Theatre, 10/9-13
