Russian songs from the goulag

Miyuki Ishibashi has dedicated her art to Russian popular songs, singing in Russian music and scores she started to collect in the streets of Moscow, while she was studying, quite some time ago. Each year, she holds a concert at Kinokuniya hall, this time on October 3rd. Accompanied by a great band, cello, accordion, piano, drums, and playing the guitar, she puts her whole heart in bringing us the passion and drama of the unvoluntary heroes of her songs : prisoners, gypsies, a dying soldier watched by a crow, convicted lesbians, drunkards, haunted by memories, longing for a better future. It resonates deeply with the present. It is for sure better to understand Russian or Japanese, as she highlights the plot of the songs, but just listening to the music and its poetry is also very, very satisfactory.
